PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
In CVL’s usual way of contributing to solving social problems in Nigeria, CVL has introduced the Young Entrepreneurs Business Training Programme, to complement government’s effort to building new businesses and curb unemployment in Nigeria through diverse entrepreneurship development programmes. Secondly, to awaken the entrepreneurial spirit of young people through capacity building, mentoring, networking, linkages and financial access to micro-finance and government assisted entrepreneurship capacity building programmes.
PROGRAMME GOAL
Young Entrepreneurship Training Programme
YETP is a One-Year intensive entrepreneurship development programme initiated for community youths between the ages of 18 – 35 years, to provide them with business support (technical, business information, and access to financial links) to community based youths who are running small businesses or have the intention to own and run a sustainable enterprise. The purpose of this project is to reduce the high unemployment rate prevalent in these Nigerian communities by building the capacity of young and aspiring entrepreneurs resident in such communities.
TARGET FOR INTERVENTION: AJEGUNLE COMMUNITY YOUTHS
Ajegunle (English translation: ‘Residence of wealth’) is trapped between the docklands of Apapa and Tincan of Lagos. It is well known for crime, poverty and prostitution. The slum is home to over 3 million underserved people and famous for producing a precious few talents in football and music. The major problems associated with the area is high level of unemployment and illiteracy amongst youths.
